Gian Luca Beccari (Italy 1969)

 

Master degree in sculpture at the Fine Art Academy of Bologna with a thesis about the relationship between body and mass media communication, he has completed his school education at the Faculty of Art, Media and Design in Bristol.

Since 1996 he has created performances and video installations, in 1999 he started the project "Argilla" with a flash mob at the Venice Biennale. After that each of his works it can take different shapes depending on the context: actions, photography, video, music, theatrical performance, video installation. 

In 2004 he designed his first interactive video installations "Link 02"  and the theatrical performace "Res" about the reification of the body in the mass media society.

 

Between 2003 and 2006 he moved to Milan, where he has collaborated with Studio Azzurro, afterwards with the National Institute of Nuclear Fisique of Rome and the National Research Council of Genoa to create interactive video installations for institutional exhibitions in at the Palazzo delle Esposizioni of Rome and Palazzo Ducale in Genoa.

With the italian singer and composer Luisa Cottifogli he has presented music/video performance at: Teatro Ponchielli Cremona,  Festival of Literature Mantova, PAC (Pavilion of Contemporary Art) in Milan, the multimedia show "Cohors" at Ravenna Festival and the videoclip "Redemption Song" for Universal Music Italia.

He's work Mutation was part of the group exhibition Video_Sicilia (2009) at Palazzo Platamone (Catania) together with Bill Viola, Peter Fishli & David Weisse, Mat Collishaw, Santiago Sierra.
